- Understand, correlate and apply theoretical knowledge of Medical Laboratory sciences independently in Diagnostic and research laboratories globally.
- Evaluate, analyze and interpret the research findings independently and practice up to date investigative procedures efficiently.
- Analyze the clinical problem, make clinical decision for diagnosis and provide appropriate investigative and management plan.
- Conduct research and present research abstract in symposia and conferences at National and International level.
- Communicate effectively with all stakeholders.
- Manage to work as a team in providing health services locally, nationally and internationally.
- Perform ethical and medico legal practices to maintain health and prevent, diagnose and treat human illness based on evidence and evolving precision medicine.
- Adapt culture of Continuous professional development and remain updated to the professional research required for effective healthcare services at national and international level.
The Objective of designing of curriculum for Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Technology is
- To prepare a cadre of health technologists and workers who can effectively assist senior health professionals in the delivery of quality health services.
- To prepare paramedical workers for all levels of the health care delivery system from the primary to the tertiary level.
- To introduce and impart standard technical education with new modern techniques, within the fields of medical technologies, by replacing the conventional methods of pre-service training (certificate level).
- To provide paramedical workers a status and recognition in the health care delivery system through improving their capacity along with increasing awareness of their responsibilities, authority and job description.
- To equip paramedical staff with modern skills and latest technical knowledge and bring them at par with other national and international level.
- To equip the Technologist/ paramedical staff working in the Hospital labs with knowledge and skill in the respective health care discipline.
Assessments
In the whole academic year, consist of two semesters; the student is assessed continuously through the following stages:
Continuous internal assessment of students in all subjects shall be done via surprise quiz, tests, presentations and midterm examination by the MLT departments. A proper record of the internal assessment which includes 30 marks shall be maintained at the department level. The scores obtained in the internal assessment shall contribute to the university examination of the candidate in accordance with the rules of the Khyber Medical University (KMU).
This is the final examination held by KMU where the successful students are promoted to the next class and failures are retained in the same class. No student shall be eligible for university examination without having attended cumulative 75% of the total lectures/ attendance for each subject in that particular demonstrations or subject including practical internship at Northwest general hospital.
A student can be stopped by the NWIHS/ departmentalacademic committee from appearing in the University final examination on account of poor academic performance/ attendance during the respective academic semester or failure to pass the midterm examination conducted by the MLT department of NWIHS .
