Welcome to the department of Medical Imaging Technology (Radiology)
NWIHS is the first private institution in the province to offer BS (Hons) in Medical Imaging Technology (Radiology) since 2014. Our program at NWIHS is an extensive program consists of advance teaching methodologies and clinical rotations at Northwest General Hospital and Research Centre. Radiology department at NWIHS is equipped with all advances teaching aid with our main focus is student-oriented learning while in NWGH& RC students learn practical skills during their clinical placement at Ultrasound, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Computed Tomography (CT) Scan, X-Rays, Fluoroscopy, Mammography and Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DEXA) units of Radiology department. We are distinguishing from other institutes in the province by offering trainings in Nuclear Medicine department and radiation oncology facilities. Our faculty is well-trained in the field and are subject specialists having many years of experience in teaching. The use of information technology and teaching with pedagogy are enabling our teachers to enhance student’s cognitive skills and to develop creativity, leadership, effective communication skills. The main ambition of our program is inculcating research-based and evidence-based practice in our students.

Radiology Program Overview
Medical Imaging Technology (Radiology) is four years HEC recognized degree programme. It deals with all kind of diagnostic techniques used in the medical sector and is very crucial for the treatment of the patients. With diagnosis depending on technology, the role of allied health professional has become vital for delivering successful diagnostic and therapeutic. The programme equips students with the required knowledge, skills, competencies and attitude that are needed to practice radiography in clinical setup. It prepares a cadre of health care technologists who can effectively assist health professionals in the delivery of quality health care services. Their role is to use scientific principles and evidence-based practice for the diagnosis, evaluation and treatment of various disorder; prevention of diseases, and to promote health of the community. In addition, it also deals with the application of administration and management skills.
Program Outcomes
The mission of the 4 years degree program in Radiology technology is to equip the students with relevant professional knowledge, skills, techniques and ethical values to enable them to apply their acquired expertise at a level between the doctors and the patient for efferent health service delivery. To recruit and provide quality individuals with an ambitious, extensive education that equips them with knowledge, skills, and abilities to provide high quality, compassionate medical imaging.
CURRICULUM
- Ability to learn and master the operation of simple/advanced sophisticated imaging machinery.
- Ability to identify and trouble-shoot problems related to equipments used in Radiology.
- Perform maintenance and corrective measures on imaging instruments, where required.
- Demonstrate complete knowledge and technical skills regarding Diagnostic Radiology Technology including X-Rays, Medical Sonography, Computerized Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Nuclear Medicine, Fluoroscopes, and cardiovascular imaging etc.
- Explain to the patient about the procedure, precautions and correct positioning, place the equipment in the proper position in relation to the patient’s body, and determine the proper machine settings.
- Demonstrate knowledge and proper usage of the radiation protection equipment.
- The ability to analyze and modify the imaging techniques according to circumstances.

1. Skillful Technologist
- Develop accuracy and meticulousness to attain high levels of ethics and technical proficiency.
- Utilize technical and non technical skills in a standardized and reproducible environment.
- Demonstrate complete knowledge and technical skills regarding the diagnostic Radiology Technology including X-Rays, Medical Sonography, Computerized Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Nuclear Medicine, Fluoroscopes, and cardiovascular imaging etc
- Demonstrate understanding of the basic concepts of professional behaviors and legal implementations of the work environment.
- Establish and maintain continuing education as a faction of growth, and maintenance of professional competence.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the principles of exposure selection and image processing, and an ability to apply this knowledge
- Provide quality patient care in routine as well as advanced imaging procedures.
2. Knowledgeable
- Demonstrate the knowledge of his/her role in the healthcare delivery system.
- The technologist must know about the complete history of the patient on the basis of which he / she would be able to understand the requirement of Radiology Scan.
- Use digital imaging and information technology equipment competently, through application of the principal and theories of its operation.
- Evaluate performance characteristics of equipment.
- Apply the knowledge of sectional anatomy to relate clinical procedures.

- Identify the important determinants of health, risk factors of Radiations,
- Implement an effective radiation protection program.
- Must be aware of PNRA rules & Regulations and SOPs of operating all Radiology Modalities to ensure radiation protection.

- Candidates applying for BS Radiology (4 year) program should meet the following criteria
- Higher Secondary School certificate in Science subjects (Pre medical) with at least 60 % marks.
- F.Sc MIT or diploma in Radiology or any relevant qualification from board and IBCC.
- Age Limit 18 to 25 Years.
