On 22nd October 2024, Northwest Institute of Health Sciences (NWIHS), Peshawar, celebrated Respiratory Care Week, emphasizing the significance of respiratory therapy in modern healthcare. The event started with a recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by an awareness walk, seminar and models exhibition.
The celebration featured an awareness walk led by faculty, students, and esteemed guests, including the Chief Guest Mr. Kashif Wakeel, Senior Respiratory Therapist at Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar, and Mr. Shoaib, Supervisor Respiratory Therapist at Hayatabad Medical Complex Peshawar. The walk aimed to raise awareness about the crucial role of respiratory care professionals.
Mr. Kashif Wakeel addressed the audience, highlighting the growing need for respiratory therapists and the critical support they provide in patient care, especially in the context of respiratory illnesses and conditions. His speech underscored the importance of developing the field to meet healthcare demands.
Dr. Subhan-ur-Rehman Burki, Principal, NWIHS and Vice Principal Dr. Qurat-ul-Aen also shared their perspectives on the program, acknowledging the efforts of the respiratory therapy department and outlining future initiatives to enhance the quality of education and training for RT professionals.
As a gesture of appreciation, shields were presented to Mr. Syed Ghufran, Head of the Department of Respiratory Therapy at NWIHS, and the guest speakers for their contributions and dedication.
Additionally, appreciation certificates were awarded to faculty members, student organizers, and those who excelled in the models and charts exhibitions. These exhibitions displayed creative and educational projects by students, showcasing their understanding of respiratory care.
The event was successful, reflecting NWIHS’s collaborative spirit in promoting respiratory therapy and educating the community about its vital importance in healthcare today.
