Northwest General and Teaching Hospital Celebrates International Nurses Day with Inspiring Event Recognizing Nursing Community’s Dedication and Service

Northwest General and Teaching Hospital and Northwest College of Nursing (NWCN) marked the International Nurses Day by organising an inspiring event to pay tribute to the incredible dedication and selfless services of the nursing community in the healthcare system on May 30th, 2023.
International Nurses Day is celebrated every year on the birthday of Florence Nightingale “the lady with the lamp” who is considered the founder of modern-day nursing. The event was attended by delegates from various health institutes, faculty, doctors, students, and the nursing community. The event was graced by the presence of Dr. Zia ur Rehman, CEO NWGH, Muhammad Afsar Khan, COO NWIHS and Prof. Dr. Noor Ul Iman, Principal NWSM and Madam Nasreen Ghani, Professor at Health Institute, Sarhad University Peshawar as chief guest.
The programme started off with the recitation of the Holy Quran and the national anthem followed by a welcome address by Mr. Barkatullah, Principal, NWCN and a cake-cutting ceremony. Students of NWCN presented and performed various drama scripts, documentaries and sketches on the roles and themes of nurses in the health care system. The themes were heart-touching and the roles of students were applauded by the audience. Speech competitions on the diverse role of nurses were also held by the students during the course of the ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion as chief guest of the event – Ms. Nasreen Ghani, Professor at Health Institute, Sarhad University Peshawar commended the role and services of nurses in caring for and curing patients in hospitals within challenging environments. She said that in modern-day nursing, the nurses have diversified roles which may be that of a researcher, educationist and administrator. Their roles are expanding in the health system and are not limited to only caring for the patients, therefore, we have to maintain quality in order to produce skilful nurses for the future healthcare system.
Dr. Zia-ur-Rehman, Chief Executive Officer, NWGH shared in his concluding remarks that nursing is the backbone of the healthcare system and Northwest is investing manifold in this sector by following and applying the international standards in the healthcare setup.
An award distribution ceremony then took place where the faculty and chief panellists were awarded by Madam Nasreen Ghani, Chief Guest, Dr. Zia ur Rehman, CEO NWGH, and Mr. Barkatullah, Principal NWCN.
